With over 25 years experience in the information technology industry, specifically computer services, the Wise Old Owl has learned to talk the language of acronyms. A modern language, rarely documented and open to all to contribute. Often used to show a superior understanding of a particular subject but rarely understood by the receiving audience.
Acronyms are coined from the initial letters of words used to describe the subject matter. Acronyms can be used by different people to mean different things, depending on the context.
The acronym has become common place in today's IT literate society, but the real meanings are often forgotten. How many times have you used an acronym only to realise you no longer know what it stands for? The IT community is probably the worst offender of the acronym. Capable of holding complete conversations that to most normal people appear to be a jumbled sentence of letters.
Within this site, we hope to be able to build a comprehensive library of acronyms that will form a reference guide for the future.
All sensible contributions welcome.
